Ohio State Flight Education expands training options for commercial multiengine rating, public registration open

Flight Education at The Ohio State University Airport is expanding commercial multiengine rating training options beginning October 1. Registration is now open to the public and university, and will utilize a 2005 Piper Seminole.

The enhanced offering will enable flight training students to earn a multiengine rating at Ohio State, which is a significant step for commercial airlines career preparation.

The recent acquisition of a Piper Seminole facilitated program growth.

“We’re very pleased to expand our training options,” said Flight Education Director Brandon Mann. “Obtaining the Piper Seminole is the first step in a revamp of our multiengine training program and our students are already excited to begin flying the new aircraft.”

The Piper Seminole is equipped with two 180-horsepower engines, cruises at a top speed of 180 miles-per-hour and is outfitted with a state-of-the-art touch screen GPS. Typically, students spend approximately 10 - 15 hours total in training to earn the multiengine rating.

Another benefit of the program expansion is the ability to offer multiengine training opportunities to aviation professionals and enthusiasts among the public.

“We look forward to welcoming the flying public to complete their multi training in this aircraft,” said Mann. “Our experienced instructors have prepared for lessons in the aircraft and we continue to take enhanced measures for sanitation.”
